Unknown gunmen in the early hours of Wednesday invaded the home of a politician, Afolabi Iwalewa, and shot his security guard during the raid.

The house located at No 15 Surulere Quarters, off Iyin Road was also vandalised during the attack.

Iwalewa, his wife, Oluwatosin and son, Olasunkanmi were to be away on holiday in France and Portugal.

It was gathered that the suspected criminals stormed the compound at the wee hour of Wednesday, 22nd November, 2017.

The security guard was beaten and sustained wounds when he resisted the invaders leaving him in a coma and pool of his blood.

A source said Iwalewa’s house in Akure was recently attacked fuelling fears that the attack might be politically motivated.

He said: “Suspected political thugs had penultimate Saturday ransacked Iwalewa’s house at Plot 16, Ogunsakin Street, Akure, where their security dog was killed.

“It could be a possible assassination attack on the family. We have contacted the family members who said they would take steps but waiting for Iwalewa’s response.”

When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Alberto Adeyemi, said the case was yet to be reported to his office.
